Avoid bubbles in your glass artwork.
There's nothing more annoying than opening up your kiln and finding that your art piece has bubbles in it. So how do you make sure there are no bubbles in your work once it's finished annealing? One way is to avoid them in the design stage.
Large areas on uninterrupted glass layering is like a magnet to bubbles. For example if you take two 10" x 10" glass sheets and lay them on top of each other in the kiln you will more than likely get bubbles. Why? Because there is no easy way for the air between those two layers to escape. But if you take the top sheet and cut it into four pieces then you have made it easier for the trapped air to vent out. Fall has arrived. And now that it's not hot out you won't be melting when working inside the studio. Well, that depends I guess on how close your standing to the glass furnace. Which I'm sure you will be grateful for if your one of those artists who uses the expensive but fantastic looking Dichroic glass. For those of you who don't know what Dichroic glass is, it's glass that has the property of showing different colours when viewed by transmitted or reflected light.
